A Long week in Finnish Lapland

Northern Finland is a vast sparsely populated area where the reindeer roam free and the region is where the Sami people live. We found the people to be exceptionally friendly with a rich culture dependent on reindeers. Reindeer meat, reindeer fashion and Arctic Berries are all part of the local cuisine. We also got to meet the real Santa Clause since as everyone knows, he lives in Finland. He lives on the Arctic Circle and his post office is run by elves where he receives millions of letters from children around the world. We also visited a zoo full of animals which live in above the Arctic Circle; the most memorable were the Lynx, Wolverine and the Musk Ox. The landscape of Northern Finland is rather flat, dominated by marshland and birch forest. Arriving in early autumn, the colorful turning of the leaves is what draws most people to Northern Finland.
