Saint Rochus Festival in Aarschot

In the small Belgian town of Aarschot, St. Roch was suffering from the Black Death, which ravaged the city several times in 1575. When the town was freed from the disease, the town hall was lit with candles on the eve of the feast day of Saint-Roch. Nowadays after dark, all lights are put out in town and Aarschot is lit only by thousands of candle lights which transform the streets and facades into fabulous images. The spectacle happens on August 15th and we enjoyed a walk through this magically lit town accompanied with some good friends.  Click to see our photos.
