Europe Trip – France – Southern Drive – Through

FRANCE PICASA PHOTO ALBUM (39 PHOTOS)

As the toll roads in France are extremely expensive for big campers, we drove on smaller national roads, making our crossing of Southern France slower.

Carcassonne, one of Europe’s largest city fortifications, is enclosed by two rampart walls and 52 stone towers. At night, everything is illuminated dramatically while in the daytime the stroll through the medieval town is amazing.

We drove further eastwards through the marshlands of the Provence and the Camargue to stop in Aigues Mortes and enjoy the lakes filled with water birds and flamingoes.

We then followed the coastal roads along the famous Côte d’Azur , where we spent some time around the red porphyry rocks of the Massif de l’Estérel. We made our way to Antibes and its cape, where the multi-million dollar yachts are lined up. We met up with Lise and Nicolas, friends we met traveling in South America, and their two children Hugo and Maxime .

We then followed the Moyenne Corniche towards Nice, having great views on all of the Côte d’Azur, and left the country through Menton.

Up to chaotic Italy where we don’t speak the language.
